The newly constructed Pak-China Friendship Green Park in Gwadar would be constructed gradually into the most distinctive cultural landscape in this area, stated Zhaang Baozhong, Chairman, China Overseas Port Holding Company (COPHC).
“We will gradually build the Pak-China Friendship Green Park into the most distinctive cultural landscape in this area,” he said in an interview.
He said, “COPHC will join hands with the local people of Gwadar to build a dynamic Gwadar Port with a stronger economy and a better environment. I hope the whole city of Gwadar will benefit from the development of Gwadar Port and realize a “win-win” situation between economic and ecological development.”
Green Park
According to a report published by China Economic Net (CEN), named after Pak-China Friendship Green Park, this plantation was completed under the cooperation of the sister cities Gwadar and Puyang in Henan Province, China, in addition to China Overseas Port Holding Company (COPHC). The park is places at the south side of China-Pakistan Friendship Road leading to the port and laid below Hill Koh-e-Batil, covering an area of 60 acres. Gwadar has a hot desert climate, characterized by little precipitation and high variation between summer and winter temperatures.
Serious soil salinisation has caused a low survival rate of plants. Faced with these difficulties, COPHC has made first-rate efforts to convert the ecological environment of Gwadar by enhancing the coverage of plantation in this area, and it has successfully planted hundreds of tropical economic tree species that can adapt to excessive temperature, salt and alkali, wind and sand, and draught.
Areas
Besides, COPHC has adopted area-based planning for the Pak-China Friendship Green Park. The main areas are distributed into a tropical arbor planting belt, a tropical flower planting area, and a hoop hedge flower gallery. Zhang Baozhong additionally shared the plan to make Gwadar the single largest contributor to Pakistan’s GDP in seven years after the Pakistan government finally granted it a 23-year income tax vacation and different exemptions for the Chinese businesses to be set up at the Gwadar Free Zone in Baluchistan province.
“I believe Gwadar will be the largest contributor to the gross domestic product (GDP) growth in seven years,” said Zhang, adding that 95 percent of the production in the Gwadar Free Zone would be exported.”
Advantages
With Gwadar Free Zone plan completed and constructed over a four-segment span for the next four years, it is expected to generate 47,000 jobs for local people, and enhance its annual sales expected to reach USD 1 billion. So far, 41 investors have come ahead to invest around $500 million in Gwadar Free Zone within side the first segment. These industries are being set up in sectors of logistics, edible oils, piping, and halal food.
Zhang Baozhong stated that the multi-million USD investment would generate 5,000 jobs in phase one alone, adding that the free zone developer had made it binding for the investors to complete the physical infrastructure in six months and start production within one year. The port operator will also promote advanced technology-based industries within the Gwadar Free Zone.
